Mpumalanga school death probed

JOHANNESBURG – Police have launched a murder investigation after a matric pupil was allegedly beaten to death by a teacher at an Mpumalanga school.

Paballo Seane (19) was beaten with a sjambok last week and was admitted to the Nelspruit. Mediclinic’s Intensive Care Unit (IC), where she later died.

The school became known for meting out corporal punishment when its head master was sentenced to three months in jail or a R1,000 fine in 1999.

The police's Selvy Mohlala says an inquest has been opened.

“There’s an inquest that we have opened. We are awaiting the outcome of the post mortem and based on that, we’ll be able to determine which direction of the investigation we have to take.”
