Urban Milwaukee blogger Bruce Murphy comments that there's a new right-wing media in the state and Wisconsin is at the forefront of creating conservative publications. He pays special attention to the Wisconsin Reporter service that is funded by right-wing causes, including the Bradley Foundation in Milwaukee, and notes that the state's biggest newspaper, the Journal Sentinel, no longer has a liberal local columnist and runs twice-a-week contributions from Christian Schneider, a longtime conservative political operative.
The Appleton Post-Crescent urges the Legislature to reject state Sen. Alberta Darling's latest attack on public education that would allow charter schools to be formed without the consent of the local school district. It's an awful bill, the paper editorializes, that would take money away from public schools and put more of it into private hands.
Under fire from several quarters, state Rep. Steve Nass writes a piece for WisOpinion in which he claims his Indian mascot bill to make it harder to force schools to change Indian names is a fair and balanced process that returns the bulk of the decision to local school districts. He doesn't indicate, though, why he opposes local control for places like Milwaukee.
Blogger James Rowen is wondering about his state. It's the only state that treats drunk driving as a no-jail offense, allows dogs to be used to hunt wolves and pays hunters when their dogs are killed. Have special interests completely taken over?, he wonders. Read More Original Post
