Pet store owner Gloria Lee, 35, is facing charges of arson following a January 27 fire at Prince and Princess Pet Boutique in Las Vegas. She had posted the $40,000 bail and was on house arrest prior to Friday’s court date. Lee’s co-defendant in the case, Kirk Bills, remains at large.
Authorities said surveillance video captures Lee letting Bills into the shop, where he tried to start a fire using kerosene splashed onto the puppy cages. The blaze was quickly put out by a sprinkler system in the store and each of the 27 puppies survived unharmed.
Prosecutor Shannon Clowers filed a new criminal complaint earlier this week with a total of 31 charges, including 27 counts of attempted animal cruelty, one for each puppy.
Lee had a prior run-in with Clark County animal control officers back in 2008. At that time, she was charged with 37 counts of violations in caring for the animals in her pet shop, including improper confinement of the animals. The case was later dismissed once the violations were corrected.
Following Marshall’s ruling, Lee was handcuffed and taken out of the courtroom and booked into the Clark County Detention Center.
